That time I met Booboo Stewart at a book signing and chickened out of asking him to sign my arm...
You drew stars around my scars
First things first.
My friend Sherry Chen and I had some random fascination with this boy when we were in high school. One afternoon when we were making our "Team Booboo” t-shirts for the midnight release of Eclipse (we went to the triple header of course), she somehow painted his name on my arm and we got this photo.
And I thought it’d be hilarious and amazing to get him to sign it again and take a picture with him and it! But ya girl chickened out!!! He was sooooo nice too!
What had happened was, I kind of just threw the photos on the table and he eventually doodled in the arm pic for me. (Reminiscent of the time I met Ali Hazelwood and had made friendship bracelets for her all week then just threw them on the table.)
But in the end, I am so glad I went to the talk and signing with @adriana_mather and @booboostewart.art for THE BREAKUP ARTIST at @therippedbodice last month!
It’s a YA rom-com about best friends with a side hustle of breaking couples up...? TBH it’s probably one where it won’t line up until I read it, but that makes me more excited to start.
What’s special about this book is the TEN illustrations integrated in the pages by Booboo! I’m imagining it’s reminiscent of the Lizzie McGuire cartoon but in book format. (I included a picture of the first one, but you’ll have to get your hands on a copy to see the rest.)
There’s an audiobook sans art, but with TWO NARRATORS! I feel like it could have been a neat opportunity to use sound-effects or soundbites to capture the artistic moments, but maybe in the next one.
It was an impactful experience in my bibliophile life. I’m a slow reader and stopped reading for fun in middle school because it was always frustrating. When my dad heard the other girls at camp obsessing over Twilight he FORCED me to read it. Stephenie Meyer reignited my love of reading which would become a core part of who I am. Never doing anything halfway, my friends and I went to see the MIDNIGHT premiere of ECLIPSE, but the triple header showing (so we arrived at 7:30 to watch the first two in theaters as well). Naturally we made t-shirts, and my friend Sherry and my hyper-fixation du jour was Booboo Stewart. These were our shirts. It’s only fitting that I would meet him 15 years later at my current obsession, THE RIPPED BODICE BROOKLYN!
Booboo really do be out here bringing old friends back together!
Have you read any of Adriana’s books yet?
Hyper-fixation du jour?
Did you READ the post at all? Pretty self explanatory I’d say.
